BettingLiveDogs Mission Statement

The US sports betting industry is booming these days as more and more sports fans are looking to add some betting action on the sports they love to watch and the teams they love to cheer on.

More than 30 states plus the District of Columbia now offer legal betting on sports and sporting events in some form. Reaching more that half the adult population in the country, US based sportsbooks such as FanDuel, DraftKings and BetMGM make it easy to download their mobile sports betting app to place your bets.

My job, as a subject matter expert, is to help you make the most of your time and efforts. For more than a decade, I have been covering the sports betting industry with weekly content for some of the best sports betting sites in the country. My current list of sites include Vegas Insider, US-Bookies, Doc's Sports, ScoresandStats and Sports Betting Stats.

While I do cover the NFL, NCAA basketball and horse racing on a weekly basis through free picks, most of my work centers on the theory and practical application of  betting on sports. I also cover the entire US sports betting industry on an extensive basis.

One of the most basic aspects of sports betting is the tendency for the betting public to lean towards favorites. Sports fans love to back winners but upsets are a major aspect of every sport and sporting events.

Betting the favorite to win against the spread is basically a 50/50 proposition. Through the first 13 weeks of this year's NFL regular season, the underdog has been able to cover that spread 55.2% of the time. Since the breakeven point betting sports with the standard 10% commission (or juice) is 52.4%, underdogs have been helping savvy NFL bettors clean up.

The purpose of BettingLiveDogs is to highlight the intrinsic value in betting the underdog in any sports matchup. My goal is to add valuable content to this blog from a general sports betting standpoint as well as post "best bet" picks for underdogs when the value in their betting odds is at its highest.

Sports betting is a way to get some skin in the game when it comes to your favorite sports, teams and individual players. Whether you are betting a side on the spread or total line, rolling the dice on a multi-team parlay or adding a few props to the mix, there is always value to be found in live dogs if you know where and how to find it.

Betting NHL Playoff Underdogs on Series Price Odds

The opening round of the NHL playoffs feature a pair of best-of-seven series in each of the four divisions. Given the high level of familiarity in these eight divisional matchups, first round upsets are extremely common in this league. The fact that the separation between the No. 1 division seed and the other three divisional teams in the playoffs can be rather thin, there is quite a bit of betting value to be found in the series price odds for underdogs. The other factor at play is a much lower advantage playing at home when it comes to NHL games. Betting stats for this season point to a slight 53.3% straight-up edge for the home team. The trick to betting NHL underdogs on the series price is to lock in the best possible odds ahead of Game 1. This is where using multiple online sportsbooks can come in rather handy. If the underdog goes on to win the series opener, its series price will go down quite a bit. You can still double down at that point but at lower value. If the underdo...

Betting Tips for NFL Money Line Underdogs

Straight-up upsets happen every week of the NFL regular season. The parity among the 32 teams adds quite a bit of betting value to many of the teams getting points on the spread. The best betting value each week can be found on the NFL money line where you can earn a higher return on your wager for betting the underdog. Winning plays on any money line bet are tied to the straight-up head-to-head result. While there is a greater financial risk for betting favorites, there is a higher reward for betting underdogs. If you are looking to maximize the value in betting underdogs on the NFL money line, here are three basic tips to improving your winning percentage. --Make Realistic Wagers As mentioned, upsets happen every Sunday in the NFL. However, you still need to be realistic when it comes to betting on them. A good starting point for betting underdogs on the money line is games where the spread is no higher than three to four points. If you find a one or two-point spread ...
